When does it pay off?

At small volumes paying per call is the cheapest lane and the table says so; a subscription only wins on price from the volume where its included units are used, and it carries the controls. No developer should overpay for a plan they do not need: the cheapest lane is listed first, and your dashboard tells you when a higher tier becomes better for you.

One rule, and why an account
Price per unit falls with commitment, never with identity: per call is the dearest lane, packs are cheaper, a subscription cheaper still — and the subscription is where the controls live.

About packs. A pack's price per 1M units is its price divided by its units — that rate does not change with your month. You do not need the whole pack this month: buy it once and use it over two, three or more months; it stays valid for twelve. Demand that swings, a development phase, a launch week, a quiet month after — that is where a pack beats a plan you would under-use. Only when even a year would not use a pack up is per call the better lane, and the row says so.
Yearly plans are billed once a year; "per month" is the annual price divided by twelve. Beyond a plan's included units the remainder is priced in prepaid packs — never overage billing.
